alWhat is PayHip and how does it work?

PayHip is an e-commerce platform that enables anyone to sell digital goods directly to customers. Since they only take a small processing fee on the sale of e-books, authors earn a higher commission on each sale, whereas other vendors (Amazon, Kobo, Apple Books, etc.) take up to 70% off the e-book price, and that’s excluding delivery fees. This helps authors earn just a little bit more, while readers pay the same price as they would on other vendors.

How do I purchase the books?

Visit the “Shop” section on my website for the full list of available books, or click on “Buy direct” when you’re visiting a specific book page. You will be redirected to the PayHip website and you will have the option of buying the book immediately or adding it to the cart while you browse. Once you’re done, enter your e-mail address, add a coupon (if you have one) and click Buy now. You will be taken to the PayPal website to complete the purchase.

How will I get the books?

After you’ve completed your purchase, you will be able to download the Mobi file for Kindle and an ePub file for any other e-reader straight away, so if you read on different devices, you will be able to use both files and you will only have to pay once. You will also receive an e-mail from PayHip with links to download the files. If you know how to sideload those files to your e-reader, then you’re ready to start reading! However, if you’re not sure how to do it, check your inbox for an e-mail coming from BookFunnel. Click on the link in that e-mail, choose your preferred e-reader and you’ll be able to start reading within a few minutes. If you have any trouble with the BookFunnel download process—which, I promise, is fast and easy—you can click the help link at the top of the BookFunnel download page and a member of their support team will be happy to lend a hand.

How can I pay for the e-books?

The standard payment method for PayHip is PayPal. If you don’t have a PayPal account, you can use a credit card. When prompted to log into your PayPal account, click on “Don’t have a PayPal account?” and continue to checkout. You will be able to enter your credit card details there.

Why should I buy direct?

When you buy directly from my online store, I receive a higher commission on each sale. While you pay the same price as you would if you bought the book from Amazon, Apple or other online vendors, I will receive a slightly higher commission because I won’t have to give away a chunk of my earnings to the online vendor. Even just one dollar can make a huge difference for an author who needs to pay for editors, cover designers, and marketing out of her own pockets. Furthermore, PayHip allows the creation of coupons, which I will periodically share with my readers so they can get my books at a reduced price. Will you be offering signed paperbacks?

At the time of writing, I am only offering e-books because the shipping costs from Italy—which is where I live—would be too high. However, if you prefer paperbacks, all my books are currently available on Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, and you can ask your local bookstore to order it for you. They’re also available for free in libraries (if you can’t find a book at your local library, please ask the awesome librarian to order it so it also becomes available for everyone else). Should I get enough requests for signed paperbacks, I will consider opening up a direct store for print books, so please do not hesitate to contact me to let me know.
